| | NPR All Things Considered | ] | So of course, last week was very interesting, you can read about it a few posts below this. The days continue to throw me curveballs. This week has included my first jury duty ever, an incredibly interesting experience, believe it or not. While i can't really talk about it yet, I can say that getting paid to attend a civics class (even at $10 a day) is far more rewarding than i thought it could have been. Next we have the random phone message today from an old co-worker of mine, asking if I'd heard the news on another old co-worker. She didn't elaborate in the message so i googled it.
Here is what I found.
Will was a good man. A jazz fanatic with untold vinyl riches (his collection at one time easily greater than 20,000 records!) and we often listened to Mingus over glasses of merlot. His presence in the world will be missed.

| | sound of fans whirring | ] | So this week has been a doozy. First of all we lost two hard drives, on two different machines, within 24 hours of each other. (20gb of mp3s and untold digicam pics gone forever!) Goddamn northwest heat, who woulda thunk it? Secondly, Amy has been having allergy attacks because of the feral kittens we've been socializing, so they have to go. (we've even been sleeping in the living room futon to keep her outta the allegy frying pan, so to speak.) If anyone is interesting in fostering some half feral/half socialized kittens, i'm all ears. THIRDLY, on Tuesday we were fucking ROBBED of every DVD we own, every game we own, several john coltrane cd box sets, and our xbox console. We (quite fortunately) have renter's insurance, so this is covered, but the violating creepiness of the situation is something that cannot be described. If you've been robbed, i feel your pain as I'm sure you feel ours. It sucks.
Thankfully this tar-like anxiety is diliuted a bit by a) vodka tonics, b) that jeff bridges clip on charlie rose and c) online multiplayer deathmatch. Online they call me a shock whore, can anyone tell me why? |

| | Strategy - Jazzy's Dilemma | ] | this past week has been interesting as amy and i have caught a feral mother cat and her three kittens. trapping them was easy, as was getting the mother fixed. this morning though, while we were grabbing our latte and americano, two of the kittens escaped their cage and hid in the corner of the bedroom. donning leather gloves, i went about the task of putting them back in the cage. as cute as kittens are, they make quite heinous sounds when a) wild and b) cornered, and i can only imagine what our mousey, hyper-private neighbors were thinking as the howls of kitten capture emanated from the window. thankfully kittens have a built in handle and once i got hold of the nape of their neck it was easy to get them where i wanted. now we have the fun(!?) task of socializing them and subsequently giving them away. w00t. speaking of, if any of you seattle-ites are looking for kittens and see this as a prime opportunity, give me a shout and you can come visit them. heh.

| | Turbocharged V-6 | ] | I got my first taste of Xbox Live last night. Raced around the Long Beach Grand Prix course on Project Gotham 2, along with some shit talking youths on the other end. This is about as close as I'm gonna get to the dream of being a race car driver, and damn if it wasn't totally satisfying to race down the back stretch at 170 mph! I doubt anyone here is addicted to video games, but if you are, STAY AWAY FROM XBOX LIVE! You will NEVER see the light of day again. You'll forget what it's like to breath fresh air, and have a pleasing, stimulating conversations. (Unless your idea of stimulating conversation goes like this: "Hey Mr. Fuckstick, stop running into me!" "Roxie69, you a girl?!" "You guys like KORN?!" "I like the part where you just stood there." etc, etc...) It's a shame i don't have a headset with a microphone. Yet.
Thankfully what I DO have is someone to blame when my retinas finally go from round to square and lull myself to sleep by memorizing track layouts. CURSE YOU NICK for two free months of Xbox live! CURSE YOU!!! |

so, some of you might know that one of my main hobbies/passions is designing levels for video games, specifically using the Unreal Editor (Unreal Tournament Series). well, there are a few sites that review custom maps (levels that didn't ship with the game) and i just got my latest map reviewed at my favorite, Insite.

it's quite exciting for me as i am hoping to turn this passion into a career. HOT SNAKES!! |

So i bit the bullet and entered the realm of laptop owners/users. i figured it would be easier to do work on the road without having to lug around a huge CRT. now if i could only get this damn intel sticker off and find a firewire card, my life would be complete. since i'm a noob to this mobile user thing, anyone have any wisdom/funny stories to share? |
